The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) has announced that by September 2024, Indonesia welcomed over 10 million foreign visitors, getting closer to the annual goal of 14 million. From January to September, international tourist arrivals surged by 20.28% compared to the previous year, totaling 10.37 million. Despite this growth, the numbers are still below pre-pandemic figures. In the same timeframe in 2019, Indonesia saw more than 12 million international tourists. In September alone, the country, recognized as Southeast Asia's largest economy, attracted 1.28 million international visitors, which is a 19.53% increase from last year, although it did represent a 4.5% drop from August. Countries like Malaysia, Australia, China, and Singapore remain the top sources of international visitors to Indonesia. The average spending per international tourist was noted at US$1,375, roughly Rp21 million per visit, which is a decrease from the previous month's average of US$1,443. On the domestic front, tourism also experienced a notable boost, with 757.96 million domestic trips recorded in the nine months leading up to September, marking a 21% increase from the same period last year. Additionally, the average hotel occupancy rate from January to September stood at 51.33%, signaling a recovery in the tourism industry following the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic.
