The Ministry Of Culture Facilitates Songwriters So That There Are More Children's Songs

Friday, 25 Jul 2025

The Ministry of Culture is committed to facilitating songwriters to create more songs relevant to children, ensuring that Indonesian children receive a wide range of children's songs.

"It's true that children's songs aren't as popular as they were when I was a child. I think we need to give affirmation to children's song creators," said Minister of Culture Fadli Zon when met at the Ministry of Culture Building in Jakarta on Wednesday.

The Ministry of Culture is facilitating songwriters to create children's songs through the Children's Song Writing Competition program. The program also encourages children with songwriting talent to contribute their compositions.

Minister Fadli Zon also sees the need for collaboration with the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education to revive national songs and the national anthem in school education by rearranging them to make them more relevant and accessible to today's generation of children.

He wants Indonesian children to re-learn national songs like "Maju Tak Gentar," "Syukur," "Hari Kemerdekaan," "Garuda Pancasila," and others that were previously required to be memorized.

"I also think this needs to be reconsidered. Our children, perhaps later on, will undergo elementary and secondary education (Dekdasmen), and we hope that the national anthems will be revived. Perhaps we will try to create a more relevant arrangement, a re-arrangement of these songs so that they can be easily accessed by our children," said Fadli Zon.

Updating the arrangements of national songs is expected to foster a sense of nationalism among the nation's children, especially as Indonesia approaches its 80th anniversary of independence.

Furthermore, to commemorate National Children's Day, the Ministry of Culture will also hold an event honoring children's singers of the past who popularized children's songs.

This appreciation also aims to foster an understanding of the era when many children's songs were created and to recall children's songs that were popular in their time. Collaboration with other ministries is also being pursued to enrich programs that can advance Indonesian culture, one of which is through national anthems.
