Indonesian Minister of Culture, Fadli Zon, is promoting the nation's rich cultural heritage through Nusantara textiles to the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). In a statement received in Jakarta on Thursday, Minister Fadli Zon presented four pieces of Nusantara textiles to UNESCO at the organization's headquarters in Paris, France. "The presentation of these Nusantara textiles is proof of Indonesia's consistency in preserving culture," said Minister Fadli Zon. The Nusantara textiles, selected for their cultural value and unique motifs, are the work of Indonesian designer Edward Hutabarat. One of the textiles donated is Sawunggaling batik from Central Java, with a rooster motif symbolizing strength. The Minister also presented a Sumbanese ikat cloth woven over weeks, embodying a spirit of perseverance and skill. "Culture is not only a heritage, but also a form of expression for its people. The motifs in the fabric are a wordless language that can inspire dialogue and increase appreciation for Indonesian culture," said Fadli Zon. The Nusantara textiles will be placed in the Indonesian Corner, a strategic location at UNESCO that can raise international awareness and appreciation of Indonesian culture. UNESCO Assistant Director-General for Administration Jennifer Linkins expressed her appreciation for Indonesia's commitment to preserving cultural heritage. "The handover of this Nusantara textile is a good example for other countries to preserve their cultural heritage," Linkins said. With the handover of the Nusantara textiles, Indonesia hopes to enhance cooperation with UNESCO in the cultural sector and promote the nation's cultural richness to the international community. Indonesian Minister of Culture Fadli Zon traveled to France to accompany President Prabowo Subianto to attend Bastille Day and celebrate 75 years of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and France. Before handing over the textiles to UNESCO, Minister Fadli Zon met with French Minister of Culture Rachida Dati at the France-Indonesia Strategic Cultural Dialogue. During the meeting, a declaration on the France-Indonesia Cultural Strategy was adopted to enhance cooperation in the fields of museums, cultural heritage, and the priority sectors of the creative economy. The meeting was a follow-up to the state visit of President Emmanuel Macron and French Culture Minister Rachida Dati to Indonesia in May.
