Veteran musician Agustinus Gusti Nugroho, better known as Nugie, has the latest news. He, currently known for his band The Dance Company with Pongki and friends, has announced he's forming another band. Nugie explained that his band is called 'Sawi'. It sounds like a vegetable, but it's an abbreviation created by the musician and his friends. "It's called Serikat Anak Woles Indonesia, shortened to Sawi," Nugie said when he visited Suara.com's office in Kuningan, South Jakarta recently. The term "woles," which is the opposite of "slow" and was popular in the 90s, was deliberately chosen to represent the band's relaxed yet energetic spirit. "Woles, you know, woles? Nah. But 90s kids say woles," said the 53-year-old drummer. Nugie isn't alone inSAWI. He collaborates with three other talented musicians. Together, they create a rock music genre that is poised to bring a new dimension to the music industry. "And there were four of us, me, Inal, Leo, and Bima. The four of us. The genre was rock," he said. Although it was only recently announced, the SAWI project wasn't an overnight idea. Nugie revealed that the band's concept had actually been in his head for two decades, making it a dream project that had finally come to fruition. "Sawi was actually 20 years ago," Nugie admitted. However, it was only in the past year that Nugie introduced the band to the public. Some time ago, they even performed in Banyuwangi, East Java. "The exciting thing is that (the songs) still resonate with the kids who watch, even though some are younger, some are the same age as us," Nugie explained. Nugie is grateful that the 90s-era music he promotes is still accepted by young people. "It's a reference that music can transcend age," he concluded.
