Bank Indonesia Promotes Halal Lifestyle For Young Families

Thursday, 07 Nov 2024

The idea of a halal lifestyle is essential for Muslims, acting as a guiding principle in every facet of life. This includes not just the halal status of food and beverages but also the sourcing of ingredients and the commitment to halal practices in business and finance. Dede Rosidah, affectionately known as Mamah Dedeh, highlights the significance of young families adopting a halal lifestyle in line with the teachings of the Quran and the practices of the Prophet.

"What we eat, wear, and the wealth we hold should be rooted in hallalan thayyiban. Thus, we should return to hallalan thayyiban in terms of legality, ensuring that our means of acquisition are halal and the results are thayyib [good]," she expressed in an Instagram post by Bank Indonesia @bank_indonesia, shared on Monday, November 4, 2024.

To support this initiative, Bank Indonesia (BI) has proposed four strategies to promote the halal lifestyle among Muslims. The first is the launch of the Halal Traceability application, which enables users to track product ingredients to confirm their halal status. For example, processed foods like sausages and meatballs can have their ingredient sources and production methods verified for halal compliance.

The second strategy focuses on enhancing the sharia business ecosystem through the digital transformation of pesantren (Islamic boarding schools). This includes modernizing payment systems, marketing, reporting units, financial record-keeping, and establishing pesantren accreditation. The third strategy involves creating Sharia Restricted Investment Account (SRIA) products to facilitate financing for sharia banking investments.

The SRIA, which is founded on mudharabah muqayyadah, is an investment model where the investor takes on the risks. This SRIA product offers a Sharia-compliant investment option that encourages transparency and shared risk between banks and their investor clients.

As a result of this initiative, it is expected that Sharia banking investment products will gain more popularity among the public. This will enable Sharia banks to draw in funds from investment clients and direct them towards specific projects through profit-sharing agreements.

Additionally, the National Strategy for Literacy and Inclusion in the Economic and Financial Sector of Indonesia (SNLIEKSI) seeks to improve the understanding of Sharia economics. This program aims to promote greater literacy and inclusion in Sharia economic and financial issues that can be utilized in everyday life.

At the Indonesia Sharia Economic Festival (ISEF) 2024, Bank Indonesia emphasized that four halal lifestyle approaches could help propel the Sharia economy and finance (EKsyar) in Indonesia, even amidst the global challenges impacting the domestic economy.

The Governor of Bank Indonesia, Perry Warjiyo, emphasized that the theme for ISEF 2024, "Synergy of Sharia Economy and Finance in Strengthening Resilience and Sustainable Economic Growth," showcases a robust collaborative initiative aimed at establishing the sharia economy as a vital asset for advancing Indonesia's economic development.

"For over a decade, ISEF has positioned Indonesia's financial economy as the largest and most integrated, serving as a point of pride for all of us. It brings us closer to realizing our goal of becoming a key player in the global halal market," he stated during the Opening Ceremony of the Indonesia Sharia Economic Festival (ISEF) 2024 at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC) on Wednesday, October 30, 2024.?
