Ministry Of Industry Threatens To Deactivate IPhone 16 IMEI

The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) announced that it will deactivate the IMEI for the iPhone 16 series. It is known that the distribution of the iPhone 16 in Indonesia is officially prohibited due to licensing issues.

According to information from TvOneNews, Kemenperin's Feb Henry Anthony Arif stated that they will consider deactivating the IMEI for iPhone 16 units that come through passenger baggage and are found to be sold in Indonesia.

Currently, the iPhone 16 available in Indonesia is only meant for personal use by travelers from abroad. Kemenperin Feb explained that if people buy this Apple product from travelers, they risk losing their money because the responsibility for the purchase falls on them.

Users who buy the iPhone 16 illegally will not receive a warranty from official distributors.

Furthermore, Kemenperin Feb mentioned that they will take legal action against those who advertise the iPhone 16 series on online marketplaces, as this is suspected to violate Article 35 of Government Regulation Number 46 of 2021 regarding Postal Telecommunications and Broadcasting.

The official has urged the public not to be tempted to buy the iPhone 16 available on online marketplaces or physical stores. This policy is a strong action by the Indonesian government towards Apple to ensure they fulfill their investment commitments and provide fairness to all smartphone investors in the country.

For your information, the sale of the iPhone 16 is banned in Indonesia because it does not meet local regulations set by the government. Apple has not yet completed its investment commitment in Indonesia, having only realized an investment of Rp 1.48 trillion out of the promised total of Rp 1.71 trillion.
