The Ministry of Creative Economy considers the 18th edition of the Bali International Film Festival (Balinale), which screens dozens of films from various countries, as a forum for the growth of the national creative ecosystem Deputy for Media Creativity, Ministry of Creative Economy (Ekraf), Agustini Rahayu, through her official statement, Saturday, stated that film is a strategic sub-sector in the development of the creative economy. This festival is also a meeting place for creators, producers, and institutions from various countries to build sustainable collaborations. "This festival is a catalyst for the growth of Indonesia's creative ecosystem," said Agustini. The 18th edition of the Bali International Film Festival (Balinale) was held at a mall in Sanur, Bali, on June 1-7, 2025. The festival showcases more than 70 films from 32 countries, including eight world premieres, 25 Asian premieres, 16 international premieres, and 23 Indonesian works. Balinale is the only festival in Indonesia that meets Oscar requirements and has built a reputation for nearly two decades as an important forum for quality cinema. It is no wonder that the event is used to gather world film industry players, while strengthening Indonesia's position on the global cultural and creative economy map. The Balinale Festival is supported by the Ministry of Creative Economy, the Ministry of Culture, the Bali Provincial Government, and the Denpasar City Government The Ministry of Creative Economy continues to be committed to supporting the growth of the national film industry through inclusive regulations, facilitating international market access, and cross-country cooperation that strengthens the competitiveness of Indonesian creative actors. "The creative economy develops through original, innovative stories with a global perspective. Film is not only a medium of entertainment, but also a tool for cultural diplomacy, national identity, and an economic driver," said Agustini. The organizers opened the 2025 Balinale Festival by screening the animated film "Flow" by Gints Zilbalodis from Latvia, which won the 2025 Academy Award. At the closing, they will screen two IMAX films produced in Indonesia, such as "Under the Sea" by Howard Hall (US/Canada) and "Born to Be Wild" by David Lickley (US).
