Thursday, 15 May 2025

The prominent Asian film festival, the 'Jogja-NETPAC Asian Film Festival (JAFF)', is once again participating in the Cannes Film Festival in France with a substantial delegation, celebrating its 20th edition from November 29 to December 6, along with the second edition of the JAFF Market from November 29 to December 1 in Yogyakarta. The JAFF Market serves as an industry platform within the festival, showcasing JAFF's standout projects at the Cannes film market, 'Marché du Film', to foster strategic partnerships between Indonesian cinema and the international film community. 'Cannes provides us with an opportunity to showcase the vibrant energy and rapidly growing prospects within the Indonesian film industry. We take great pride in the selection of JAFF Market projects such as 'Pangku', 'Locust', 'Bandits of Batavia', and 'Jitu', which are now poised to take the global stage at Cannes,' stated JAFF Festival Director Ifa Isfansyah in a written statement received in Jakarta on Monday.

This year's JAFF Market, according to Ifa, who also serves as the Chief Commissioner of JAFF Market, will support filmmakers, studios, producers, and various Indonesian film projects at Cannes, including the directorial debut of Reza Rahadian, 'Pangku', which previously won an award at 'JAFF Future Project 2024' and will be presented in the 'HAF Goes to Cannes' program. In addition to 'Pangku', three original intellectual property projects from 'JAFF Content Market 2024', namely 'Locust', 'Bandits of Batavia', and 'Jitu', will also be featured in the 'Spotlight Asia - Asian IP Adaptation' program. This initiative underscores JAFF Market's commitment to promoting Indonesian narratives in the global marketplace. Furthermore, JAFF Market has established partnerships with the 'Netherlands Film Fund' and the 'Adelaide Film Festival', and is collaborating with Visinema and Jagartha to enhance the visibility of the Indonesian film industry on the international stage through various networking events.
