Minister of Social Affairs Saifullah Yusuf, also known as Gus Ipul, is set to facilitate a meeting between Agus Salim and Pratiwi Novianti to address the ongoing controversy surrounding donations that have attracted public attention. Agus Salim is a victim of a severe acid attack, while Pratiwi Novianti is a YouTuber who has been collecting donations for him. "I hope we can meet in the near future," stated Gus Ipul after receiving Agus Salim and his legal representative, Farhat Abbas, at the Ministry of Social Affairs office on Jalan Salemba Raya, East Jakarta, on December 4, 2024. "This meeting serves as a platform for dialogue that could lead to a peaceful agreement," the Minister remarked. During the discussions with both parties, Gus Ipul will also relay the outcomes of the meeting with Agus Salim to Pratiwi Novianti. He indicated that mediation would take place soon, emphasizing that Agus Salim's medical treatment remains a top priority. Consequently, Gus Ipul urged for the cessation of unproductive public debates. He also called for adherence to regulations when organizing donations. He acknowledged the commendable nature of spontaneous charitable actions by the Indonesian populace but stressed that such initiatives must comply with established guidelines. "Spontaneity is commendable, and helping others is admirable, but the rules must be followed. Additionally, the purpose of the fundraising must be clearly defined," stated the Secretary-General of the Nahdlatul Ulama Central Board. "Not every collection can be arbitrary; for instance, if there is a disaster, the funds should be specifically allocated for that event, such as for the disaster in Aceh," he elaborated.
