Lazada's research has shown that consumer confidence in AI-driven platforms is exceptionally high. An impressive 92 percent of participants depend on AI for product suggestions, while 90 percent use it for tailored product summaries. "In fact, 88 percent of those surveyed make buying choices based on AI-generated content and recommendations," said James Dong, CEO of Lazada Group, in a statement released on Sunday, November 3, 2024. Another Lazada study found that 80 percent of respondents engage with AI features in the e-commerce app at least weekly, with chatbots being the most commonly used. This is followed by visual product searches and translation tools. The report also explores why consumers are turning to AI for their online shopping needs. "Over half of the respondents (52 percent) in Southeast Asia mentioned that the convenience of shopping is their main reason for integrating AI into their daily lives," James added. Furthermore, 51 percent value product reviews and seller ratings as essential features, indicating a chance for sellers to provide more detailed, relevant, and genuine reviews through AI technology. A large number of consumers, specifically 83 percent, recognize the growing importance of artificial intelligence and are open to paying extra to benefit from its impact while shopping online. This readiness to invest more is largely due to the advantages AI offers, with almost half of those surveyed (49 percent) noting that AI makes it easier to find products, improves customer service, and enhances the overall shopping experience, according to James. These insights come from a study conducted with Kantar across six Southeast Asian nations: Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, and the Philippines, which surveyed over 6,000 e-commerce users aged 18 to 60 in September 2024. "The release of our first report is a pivotal step in grasping how AI is influencing the future of e-commerce. As technology progresses, consumer expectations are also evolving," James commented.
