The Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi) stated that Starlink's decision to suspend activation of new customers in Indonesia is due to the current full network capacity available in Indonesia. Director General of Digital Infrastructure (Dirjen) of the Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi), Wayan Toni Supriyanto, stated that the service from billionaire Elon Musk's SpaceX rocket company is currently in the process of adding capacity. Wayan explained that due to the network being congested by existing customers, Starlink will expand it by utilizing the E-Band frequency. Widening the frequency is a prerequisite for ongoing communication between the gateway and the satellite. "The E-Band frequency band will be usable after the Landing Rights are renewed and Starlink pays the PNBP (Non-Tax State Revenue) for the frequency usage rights (BHP) as the final stage of the process," Wayan explained in a statement reported on Thursday (July 17, 2025). The decision to temporarily suspend service to new customers, Wayan emphasized, was Starlink's decision. Starlink E-Band Frequency The E-Band frequency operates at 70 GHz to 80 GHz. Komdigi stated in a statement that this frequency often serves high-capacity backhaul for broadband services. The E-Band is also suitable for facilitating point-to-point wireless services and other communication applications requiring high capacity. Starlink Indonesia recently issued an official notice titled "Important Note for New Customers in Indonesia," confirming the temporary suspension of low-earth orbit (LEO) internet services for new customers.
