Indonesia's Inclusive Digital Transformation Gets Global Spotlight In Geneva

Monday, 14 Jul 2025

The Indonesian government's implementation of an inclusive digital transformation model received significant attention from world-class leaders at the Leaders TalkX forum in Geneva, Switzerland.

This global spotlight came after Minister of Communication and Digital (Menkomdigi) Meutya Hafid explained that Indonesia upholds digital development that must reach all citizens without exception.

"Digital connectivity is a right for everyone, not the privilege of a select few. The internet must be available in rural, urban, and remote areas," said Hafid in a panel discussion titled "The Role of Governments and all Stakeholders in the Promotion of ICTs for Development" on Wednesday.

Hafid emphasized that Indonesia's approach, which integrates infrastructure development, human resource capacity building, and digital literacy, is a model that can be replicated by other countries.

Specifically regarding digital infrastructure, by July 2025, the Ministry of Communication and Digital (Kemkomdigi), through the 10,000 Digital Villages program, implemented through the Telecommunication and Information Accessibility Agency (BAKTI), has reached 4,132 villages in underdeveloped, frontier, and outermost (3T) regions.

Through this program, the government has successfully connected more than 3.8 million residents to digital services for the first time.

Furthermore, the construction of 7,500 Base Transceiver Station (BTS) towers has expanded 4G services to non-commercial areas, while the Palapa Ring fiber optic backbone network now covers all provinces.

"Our target is to have 90 percent of Indonesia's population connected to broadband internet by 2030, and 100 percent by 2045. This is part of the Digital Indonesia 2045 Vision," explained Meutya.

Meutya also explained that Indonesia continues to strengthen its digital infrastructure by establishing a National Data Center (PDN) as a foundation for developing renewable technologies, enabling Indonesia to deliver more digital solutions and innovations.
