WhatsApp is launching a new feature that lets Meta AI summarize the contents of your private messages. This feature can be accessed by tapping a button to display unread messages in a chat. Instead of displaying the entire message, WhatsApp will display a summary in the form of key points. For now, the feature is available in English in the United States and will expand to more countries and languages ??later this year. "Message summary is rolling out in English for people in the United States and we expect to make it available in other languages ??and countries later this year," Meta wrote. This technology uses Meta's Private Processing system which is designed to protect user privacy by preventing Meta and other third parties from accessing the contents of messages. This message summary feature is optional and is not active automatically. Users can also set advanced privacy through the "Advanced Privacy" feature so that other people in the group cannot use AI features in shared conversations. However, as reported by The Verge, there are still questions regarding the accuracy of this AI summary, considering that Apple previously also faced accuracy issues with its AI-based message and notification summary features. In the past year, Meta has continued to add various artificial intelligence-based features to WhatsApp, from the ability to ask Meta AI directly in chats to features that can generate images in real time. However, some users are annoyed by the presence of the Meta AI button in the lower right corner that cannot be removed. Meta also received protests when it introduced ads in the application, even though the founders previously stated that they would not include ads. Private Processing technology is designed to protect user interactions with AI in a secure cloud environment, so that it cannot be accessed by Meta or WhatsApp. In addition, other users in the chat group will not be able to see the resulting message summary.
