Apple Announces A Series Of New Technologies: Liquid Glass, AI, And A Name Change

Apple announced a number of new features and technologies that will be available on the iPhone and Macbook in the near future, including a new name for the operating system and a visual element called the liquid display. 

Apple's software developer conference, the Worldwide Developers Conference, was held on Monday (9/6/2025) at the company's headquarters in Cupertino or Tuesday morning Jakarta time. 

This annual event is used by Apple to showcase features and technologies that can be utilized by software developers in applications and software designed for various Apple products. 

This year, one of Apple's main focuses is the artificial intelligence (AI) feature labeled Apple Intelligence. At the early morning event, Apple stated that Apple Intelligence technology can now be accessed directly by developers. 

The following are important announcements at WWDC, as quoted by Reuters: 

Liquid Glass 

Apple showcased a design called Liquid Glass on all of their devices, namely an interface that appears to reflect and is translucent like glass. This design responds dynamically to all movements on the screen in real-time. 

The Liquid Glass design will be implemented in buttons, media controls, and large elements such as sidebars. Apple has opened up the Application Programming Interfaces feature so developers can start using this design in their apps on the new software available on their devices next year. 

Operating System Name 

Apple's mobile operating system, iOS, now has a new name. After iOS 18, Apple will use the year name so the next version will be called iOS 26. Along with the name change, Apple also announced several features such as incoming call screening. The iPhone can now answer the phone or ask the caller to wait until the user can speak. 

The Messages application, a messaging platform similar to WhatsApp on Apple devices, will be equipped with a feature to change the background of the chat window. Apple also announced the AI ??gen feature into the Xcode coding tool so developers can write programs and find errors using AI. In addition, other AI models such as ChatGPT will also be able to be used in Xcode. 

Apple Intelligence 

The AI ??features announced by Apple include Live Translation which translates conversations in real-time via SMS, chat, voice calls, and FaceTime. AI is also used in the Apple Pay payment feature to monitor all transactions, even those that use other payment systems. Apple's new devices will also be equipped with a feature to create images from text using OpenAI's technology. This feature will be available in the Image Playground application. Apple said their AI features will be processed internally on the device so that developers can develop applications that utilize AI even if the user is not connected to the internet.
