The Indonesian government is collaborating with Perthera and Pathgen Diagnostic Technology to transfer artificial intelligence (AI) technology in order to facilitate early diagnosis, selection of therapy, and appropriate treatment for cancer survivors. In a statement received in Jakarta, Tuesday, Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin said that the number of cancer cases in Indonesia continues to increase and is predicted to soar to more than 70 percent by 2050, if prevention and early detection measures are not strengthened. "This cancer continues to increase in the number of deaths every year. Now we don't find it because now the diagnostics are getting better. However, what is important is how the public is educated that this disease (cancer) must be detected early because the technology is developing like this," said Budi. He said that currently, around 400 thousand new cases of cancer are detected each year, with a death rate reaching 240 thousand cases. Without effective intervention, he said, the burden of cancer will increase, both in terms of public health and the economy. In the same statement, Pathgen Diagnostic Technology CEO Dr Susanti said that AI-based technology can increase survival by two and a half times for cancer patients, in addition to reducing treatment costs because the selected drugs are more appropriate and help doctors provide appropriate drug recommendations.
