The Indonesian government through the Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi) is collaborating with Oracle in developing an artificial intelligence (AI) center in Southeast Asia. This collaboration focuses on building the largest GPU cluster in the region as an effort by Indonesia to strengthen digital sovereignty and increase national technological competitiveness at the global level. Minister of Communication and Digital Meutya Hafid in her statement, in Jakarta, Monday (5/5), stated that Oracle will launch a public cloud region in Indonesia in the third quarter of 2025. This facility is projected to be a data center with cutting-edge technology capable of supporting large-scale AI workloads, while supporting national data security and sovereignty. "We want Indonesia to not only be a user, but also a center for AI development in Southeast Asia. The GPU cluster built by Oracle will be an important foundation for the national AI ecosystem, strengthening digital capacity, and opening up great opportunities for innovation," said Meutya. In addition to infrastructure, this collaboration also includes human resource development through AI training for students, workers, and state apparatus. “Sustainable digital transformation can only be achieved with strong human resources. We are targeting AI provision for more than 100,000 citizens in the next three years,” said Meutya. Oracle Senior Vice President for Japan and Asia Pacific (JAPAC), Chris Chelliah, said that Indonesia is a strategic market with great potential to become a regional AI leader. “We see Indonesia as a dynamic AI growth center. Oracle not only brings technology and investment, but also builds infrastructure that is ready to answer local needs, from data security to the sustainability of the digital ecosystem,” he said. Oracle, which has been operating in Indonesia for 30 years, is now strengthening its investment through the development of a public cloud area with a giant GPU cluster that will facilitate large-scale AI processing, a key element in various sectors ranging from public services to the creative industry. Furthermore, Komdigi and Oracle will form a joint working team to develop a roadmap for the development of a national AI that is inclusive and globally competitive.
