Thursday, 08 May 2025

Minister of Communication and Digital (Menkomdigi) Meutya Hafid emphasized the importance of cross-sector collaboration as the main key to strengthening national cyber defense.

During the visit of the Sespimti Polri Professional Work Lecture (KKP) II at the Ministry of Communication and Digital Office in Central Jakarta, on Monday, Meutya said cyber security cannot only be the task of one institution.

"Digital space security must involve all parties, the government, the Police, the TNI, intelligence agencies, and the wider community. This is a shared responsibility to maintain national stability," said Menkomdigi Meutya, in her statement in Jakarta, Monday.

This is in response to the situation, Indonesia is currently facing major challenges in the digital realm. According to the latest Sea Times report, Indonesia ranks first in the world in terms of internet addiction, with users who are not only numerous but also very active.

This condition makes Indonesia's digital space very vulnerable to various forms of cyber attacks, ranging from online fraud to online gambling and threats that have the potential to shake national stability.

To strengthen Indonesia's digital fortress, the government has formed the Directorate General of Digital Space Supervision, a new unit specifically tasked with monitoring and handling threats in cyberspace.

Meutya gave an example of the importance of synergy with various institutions, including the National Police, in handling various digital crime cases, one of which is cooperation in monitoring and taking action against illegal SIM card misuse and online gambling which is increasingly rampant.

She highlighted the practice of digital identity management in Dubai which is considered worthy of emulation. "In Dubai, they implement an eSIM system that is integrated during the immigration process, so that all arrivals are monitored digitally. We need to learn and adapt innovative steps like this to strengthen supervision in Indonesia," she said.
