The Partnership Strategy Of Kemkomdigi To Introduce 5G Technology And Innovation

Monday, 05 May 2025

The Ministry of Communication and Digital (Kemkomdigi) is developing several partnership strategies to enhance connectivity, technology, and the innovative use of 5G connectivity in Indonesia, thereby accelerating the national digital transformation process. This includes partnerships with national industry communities and bilateral collaborations as key steps to improve connectivity and foster the growth of 5G technology innovations. "We recognize that the 5G ecosystem cannot be built solely by the government.

We are actively engaging industry communities such as Mastel, telecommunications service provider associations, and 5G device vendors," stated Wayan Toni Supriyanto, the Director General of Digital Infrastructure at Kemkomdigi, in an interview with ANTARA on Thursday. For partnerships with industry communities and associations, Kemkomdigi is directing collaboration in three main areas: first, involving communities and industry players in the formulation of policies and regulations.

Secondly, collaboration is encouraged in conducting pilot studies for 5G technology innovations, such as trials for utilizing 5G in smart factories that enable automation of tasks. "Thirdly, collaboration is promoted for the provision of radio frequency spectrum, particularly in frequency bands still used for other services, such as satellites," Wayan added. Furthermore, Kemkomdigi is also pursuing partnerships to enhance connectivity and the utilization of 5G technology in Indonesia through bilateral cooperation with other countries. In the past two years, three countries have expressed interest and engaged in strategic dialogues with Indonesia regarding the utilization and expansion of 5G connectivity, including India, Russia, and Japan. Wayan mentioned that the most recent development was a bilateral meeting between the Minister of Communication and Digital, Meutya Hafid, and the Indian Ambassador to Indonesia, Sandeep Chakravorty, on Monday (April 28).
