The disruption caused by digital technology is transforming various sectors, including the job market. Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Nezar Patria emphasized the importance for the younger generation to enhance their digital skills in order to remain competitive and resilient amidst technological disruption. "There are essentially two options: first, to strengthen foundational skills to enter the industry; second, to master advanced technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things, Blockchain, Cloud Computing, and others," he stated in South Jakarta on Friday, December 13, 2024. According to Nezar, the adoption of new technologies has led to a more dominant automation process. He cited the use of AI in the transportation sector, which allows toll gates to be operated by machines. Additionally, the healthcare and financial sectors are increasingly utilizing digital platforms. "In the past, toll gates had personnel managing them; now, that is no longer the case. This alone has eliminated nearly 2,000 jobs. We must anticipate such changes," he explained. Therefore, Nezar urged the youth to continue learning and mastering new technologies to be prepared for a technology-driven job landscape. "This means delving into technology to create it and mastering it to operate jobs that utilize advanced technology," he articulated. Nezar Patria stated that the government has designated digital transformation as a crucial agenda in Indonesia. Over the past decade, the government has implemented proactive measures to address the disruptions caused by the use of digital technology. This plan has been outlined in the Vision Indonesia Digital 2045, which considers the dynamics of the Digital Economy, Digital Society, Digital Government, and Digital Infrastructure. The Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital emphasized that national digital transformation will occur gradually, in accordance with the readiness of each sector.
