The story of the struggle of Human Rights activist Munir Said Thalib will soon be brought to the big screen. The film will be produced by Pal8 Pictures, a new production house under the auspices of Tempo Media Group. The project is adapted from the book Mencintai Munir by Munir's wife, Suciwati, which summarizes her husband's life journey and struggles.

Munir was an important figure in the human rights advocacy movement in Indonesia, especially during the 1998 reform era. He died mysteriously due to being poisoned with arsenic on a flight to Amsterdam on September 7, 2004. At that time, Munir was on his way to continue his studies in the Netherlands. Pal8 Pictures Director, Budi Setyarso said that this film will highlight Munir's personal side and struggles as a pro-democracy activist.

"We are excited to bring up the story of Munir, whose struggles were very important before, during, and after the reformation," said Budi, at the launch of Pal8 Pictures in Jakarta, Tuesday (6/17/2025). According to Budi, the book script written by Suciwati has strong cinematic elements. The book not only shows the advocacy struggle, but also the personal side of the family, starting from the love story, the terror experienced, to the daily life experiences.
