The Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub)revealed that international aviation is recovering well and is projected to fully recover this year after being impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Syamsu Rizal, Director of Air Navigation at the Directorate General of Civil Aviation at the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub), stated that the recovery for aviation is indeed faster, as confirmed by the growth in international passenger traffic, which is almost approaching that of 2019. Last year, the recovery rate for international flights in 2024 compared to 2019 was only 96%. This year, the figure is expected to reach 110%. "So, international flights are indeed recovering faster, with projections that they will exceed 100% this year. Hopefully, this will be achieved by the end of the year. I think this is very optimistic," he said in a press conference on Tuesday (August 5, 2025). Rizal stated in his presentation that the Ministry of Transportation predicts that the number of domestic and international passengers will reach 108.1 million by the end of this year. This comprises 66.95 million domestic passengers and 41.15 million international passengers. He also predicted that international passenger growth this year will reach 14% year-on-year (YoY). Meanwhile, domestic passenger growth will only be 2%, with a projected recovery rate of 85%, lower than international passenger growth. Domestic and international air traffic is projected to grow by only 1% YoY in 2025. Domestic passenger traffic is projected to stagnate with a projected growth of 0% this year, after a 4% contraction in 2024. Meanwhile, the projected recovery rate for domestic flights in 2025 is 69% compared to 2019. During the same period, the recovery rate for international flights is predicted to reach 93%. According to data from the Directorate of Air Transportation at the Ministry of Transportation, as of June 2025, there are 257 existing airports and 39 additional airports planned. Of this number, the international flight network currently only covers 17 cities in Indonesia, with 129 routes. Nine national airlines and 59 international airlines provide international flights. Of the available route networks, only 55 international cities are registered. Meanwhile, 301 domestic flights, connecting 126 cities in Indonesia, are served by 16 airlines. Of these, 14 are for passengers and two are for cargo.
