Following the 2025 Hajj, Lion Air Group will reopen direct Umrah flights from Kualanamu Airport to Jeddah. This was marked by a ceremony held at the Kualanamu Airport International Terminal on Sunday (July 13, 2025).

Present at the event were Yosrizal Syamsuri, Acting President Director of PT Angkasa Pura Aviasi Kualanamu; Novianti Harahap, Director of Commercial Affairs at Lion Air; Juli Aspita, Area Manager for Lion Air Group North Sumatra; Abednego Azarya Tampubolon, Senior Vice President of Commercial at PT Angkasa Pura Aviasi; Kedar Deshpande, Director of Commercial and Business Development at PT Angkasa Pura Aviasi; Sinang Triyanto, Manager of Airline Marketing at PT AVI Kualanamu; Aji Wibisono, Junior Manager of Airline Marketing at PT AVI Kualanamu; and others.

Acting President Director of Angkasa Pura Aviation Kualanamu, Yosrizal Syamsuri, stated on the occasion that his company supports the reopening of direct Umrah flights from Kualanamu to Jeddah.

"The management of PT Angkasa Pura Aviation Kualanamu fully supports the reopening of this direct Umrah route from Kualanamu to Jeddah," he said.

We hope this will continue and, if necessary, expand to accommodate the guests of Allah performing Umrah to the Holy Land," Yosrizal stated.

Furthermore, today's first flight after the 2025 Hajj season departed with nearly 400 Umrah pilgrims, meaning the seats are almost full.

So, with the current three flights per week, we hope to see more. We will certainly continue to support this and will continue to provide the best service for the guests of Allah," he explained.

Meanwhile, Lion Air Commercial Director Novianti Harahap, accompanied by Juli Aspita, Area Manager of Lion Air Group North Sumatra, explained the launch of direct Umrah flights from Kualanamu Airport, Medan (KNO), to King Abdulaziz International Airport, Jeddah (JED), Saudi Arabia. This step is part of Lion Air's commitment to providing ease, comfort, and speed for pilgrimages to the Holy Land.

This service will begin operating on July 13, 2025, and will continue to be available periodically according to the departure schedules of partner Umrah travel agencies. Lion Air flies Umrah pilgrims from Kualanamu using wide-body Airbus A330-300 and Airbus A330-900NEO aircraft with a capacity of up to 436 economy class seats, featuring spacious cabins, ergonomic seats, and entertainment systems to support long-distance travel," he explained. Each pilgrim will receive 30 kg of free baggage allowance, 7 kg of carry-on baggage allowance, and 5 liters of Zamzam water distributed upon their return from Saudi Arabia.

He continued, "These facilities provide flexibility in bringing prayer equipment, clothing, and souvenirs from the Holy Land." The existence of this direct route from Medan provides added value for the people of North Sumatra and the surrounding areas, eliminating the need to travel to another city to perform Umrah. This also strengthens Kualanamu Airport's role as one of the main gateways for international pilgrimages from western Indonesia."
