PT Garuda Indonesia, in collaboration with PT Safina Dania Wisata, under the umbrella of Dream Aviation, is launching direct Umrah flights (without transit) to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, from five cities across Indonesia, including Makassar, South Sulawesi. "Today, we are holding the second inauguration after Surabaya. The first departure was from Hasanuddin International Airport with 360 pilgrims. This month's flights are fully booked," said Muh Umar Bakhadam, CEO of PT Safina, at the launch of the inaugural flight at Hasanuddin Airport, Makassar, on Sunday. Through this airline partner, Garuda Indonesia plans to operate 18 weekly flights to five cities and four weekly flights from Makassar, with a full capacity of 360 seats per flight. "As one of the most trusted Umrah service providers in Indonesia, we are committed to providing the best and most reliable service to every pilgrim," explained Umar. This partnership offers a variety of superior amenities, including baggage allowance of up to 30 kg, in-flight meals, in-seat entertainment, and comfortable seating in Premium Economy and Economy classes. This service is presented under the concept of a premium service airline, emphasizing comfort and a comprehensive travel experience, from pre-flight, in-flight, and post-flight. PT Garuda Indonesia General Manager Arne Suryoyudo Sasmita stated that this collaboration demonstrates the commitment to providing the best service by combining the potential and resources of Garuda Indonesia and PT Safina. "This collaboration also serves to assist Muslims in their worship and demonstrates our commitment to providing services in accordance with Sharia principles, from airport preparations and onboard the aircraft to the pilgrims' return," he said. Garuda Indonesia and Dream Aviation appreciate the support from regulators, airport managers, air traffic controllers, strategic partners, and all crew and employees. This synergy is expected to provide added value for Indonesian Umrah pilgrims and facilitate access to the Holy Land. "We hope to improve Umrah services to provide broad benefits," added Arne. Previously, Garuda Indonesia, with flight code GA 976, commenced its inaugural Umrah service for 2025–2026, or 1447 Hijri, from Juanda International Airport, Sidoarjo, East Java, on July 12, 2025.
