PT Garuda Indonesia (Tbk), Sriwijaya Air, and Lion Air Group have requested changes to domestic flight routes to make them shorter. This is one of the steps to make flight routes more efficient so that flight ticket prices can be reduced. Garuda Indonesia President Director, Wamildan Tsani Panjaitan, gave an example of one of the routes that will be changed, namely Denpasar-Jakarta. According to him, currently the flight distance from Jakarta to Denpasar is 605 nautical miles with a fuel requirement of 4,353 kilograms (kg) and a flight time of 2 hours 3 minutes. However, for the opposite route, namely from Denpasar to Jakarta, this flight route is directed to fly slightly to the north. So the flight distance from Denpasar to Jakarta is further than the reverse flight, which is 670 nautical miles, with fuel usage of 4,609 kg and a time of 2 hours 3 minutes. In fact, he said, if the flight route is carried out in a straight line without flying a little to the north, then the distance is reduced to 652 km by spending 4,511 kg of fuel and a shorter time, which is 2 hours 1 minute. "If we compare, both from Cengkareng-Denpasar and Denpasar-Cengkareng, here there is a difference in distance of 22 nautical miles with a more efficient fuel of 119 kilograms," he said during the RDPU of the Special Committee of the Indonesian House of Representatives with airlines in Jakarta, Tuesday (1/7/2025).
