Supadio Airport Ready To Serve International Flights Again, AirAsia And Scoot On The Radar

Wednesday, 02 Jul 2025

Supadio Airport, Pontianak, West Kalimantan, will resume operating international flights in the near future. PT Angkasa Pura II as the manager is currently finalizing various technical and administrative preparations to support the reactivation of international route services to and from Pontianak. "Alhamdulillah, after years of struggling, finally on May 7 the government officially determined two airports that will return to international status. One of them is Supadio Airport in Kubu Raya," said Executive General Manager (EGM) of PT Angkasa Pura II Supadio Airport, Muhammad Iwan Sutisna, in Pontianak, Sunday (6/29/2025) as reported by Antara.

According to Iwan, the process of reopening international routes is fully supported by various parties, including the West Kalimantan Provincial Government and legislative members at the regional and central levels. Coordination with related agencies such as Customs, Immigration, and Quarantine (CIQ) has also been carried out to ensure the readiness of infrastructure and supporting services.

"Various improvements have been made to the facilities in each agency. And on May 23, we and the AirAsia team met with the Governor of West Kalimantan to discuss plans to reopen international routes," he said. AirAsia is said to have expressed its commitment to reopen international flights from Supadio. Although the official schedule has not been announced, Iwan confirmed that the licensing process is underway. "If asked exactly when, we cannot say because we are still waiting for the process from the airline and the Ministry of Transportation, starting from route permits, PPRP, to determining time slots," he explained. In addition to AirAsia, PT Angkasa Pura II is also exploring opportunities for cooperation with Scoot Airlines, a subsidiary of Singapore Airlines, to open a direct route from Pontianak to Singapore. "We hope that in the future the people of West Kalimantan will be able to fly directly to Singapore from Pontianak, without having to transit in another city," added Iwan. Not only focusing on international routes, Supadio is also preparing to expand domestic flights. However, the details are still under discussion. "What is certain is that we continue to strive to make Supadio Airport a strategic hub, both for domestic and international flights," said Iwan.
