Flights at the international airport in Frankfurt, Germany were disrupted on Thursday morning due to a climate-related protest, according to airport authorities. The ongoing demonstrations have led to the suspension of flights, prompting the airport operator to advise passengers against heading to the airport at this time. Travelers using air transportation are urged to verify their flight status prior to departure and to allow extra time for their journey. Reports from the federal police indicated that six activists associated with the Last Generation movement breached the outer fence to access the airfield, where they staged a protest by sitting on the asphalt. A photo shared by the group showed a protester seated on the tarmac holding a sign that read "oil kills." The protesters' actions caused a halt in operations on all four runways at the airport. Air traffic resumed later in the morning, but the airport warned of possible additional delays and cancellations. The airport authority announced, "Update: @FRA runway reopened at 07:50 (04:50 GMT) following closure due to climate protests." German police increased security at airports in response to the protests.
