Scoot To Open Flights To Medan And Labuan Bajo, Ministry Of Transportation Speaks Out

Tuesday, 17 Jun 2025

Singapore Airlines' low-cost airline, Scoot, will open new routes and increase flight frequencies this year. This is to fill the gap in routes after Jetstar Asia, owned by Qantas Airways Ltd, will close its operations on July 31, 2025.

As reported by Bloomberg, Saturday (14/6), Scoot will serve flights to Okinawa in Japan, as well as Medan and Labuan Bajo in Indonesia starting in October 2025.

Scoot and Singapore Airlines will also increase the number of weekly services to nine other destinations in Malaysia, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, and the Philippines until the end of 2025, subject to regulatory approval.

Kumparan confirmed this to the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub). Head of Public Relations and General Affairs of the Directorate General of Air Transportation, Kemenhub, Endah Purnama Sari, explained that until now they had not received official notification from Scoot regarding the plan to add flight routes.

"Responding to media reports regarding plans to add flight routes for foreign airlines, Scoot Pte Ltd (SIN) to Labuan Bajo and Medan, the Directorate General of Air Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation stated that until now it has not received an official notification letter from the airline regarding the plan to add flight routes," Endah explained to kumparan.

However, the Ministry of Transportation welcomes national and foreign airlines that will submit flight route applications if the requirements can be met, including if the slot time at the airport is still available.
