Jetstar Asia officially closes Singapore-Bali flight operations. The closure will take place in stages until July 31, 2025. Jetstar Group management said the decision was taken because the business prospects on the route were no longer promising in terms of profit. "We have been operating for more than 20 years. However, in recent years, the ecosystem and flight operations (Singapore-Bali route) have become increasingly challenging," said Jetstar Group CEO Stephanie Tully in her statement, Thursday (12/6/2025). Tully explained that flight operating costs and the Consumer Index Price (CPI) or inflation have soared in recent years. In fact, operating costs are said to often swell by up to 200 percent. On the other hand, Jetstar Asia is known as a low-cost airline. This situation makes the Singapore-Bali route operations not comparable to the company's ability to reduce flight costs. "This means that our ability to provide cheap flight services for under hundreds of dollars for customers is no longer something we can fulfill," he said. According to Tully, his party had tried to survive amidst the worsening business conditions. However, the effort did not produce results. "Jetstar Asia's operational situation is now unsustainable. Therefore, we have to make this difficult decision," he said. The route closure also affected Jetstar Asia employees based in Singapore. Hundreds of employees were laid off due to the gradual cessation of operations. "I am sure that our great employees will get other job opportunities in the aviation world," said Tully. He said that many of Jetstar Asia's employees have worked since the airline was founded in 2004. However, Tully did not explain in detail regarding the salary or severance pay given after the total closure. "Our employees are part of the aviation business ecosystem in Singapore. So, there will be a lot of demand for aviation workers because of the good skills of our employees," he said. Monitoring at the International Terminal of I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport, Jetstar Asia still serves the Singapore-Bali route every day with three departure schedules: at 14:50 WITA, 19:15 WITA, and 23:25 WITA. The arrival schedule from Singapore is at 13:50 WITA, 18:35 WITA, and 22:45 WITA. Of the three schedules, only the last flight on each route was canceled. Even so, the atmosphere at the international terminal still looks crowded.
