Wednesday, 14 May 2025

A number of business operators are advocating for the immediate reopening of international flights to and from Ahmad Yani Airport in Semarang. This demand is supported by the findings of the Survey of Overseas Travel Intensity of Business Actors conducted by the Central Java Investment and One-Stop Integrated Services Office (DPMPTSP). According to the survey, out of 172 respondents, 98 indicated a preference for landing at Ahmad Yani Airport, with 78 of these respondents coming from China, while the remainder hailed from Taiwan, Hong Kong, Korea, and Indonesia.

Regarding departure preferences, a survey of 167 respondents revealed that 95 preferred to depart from Ahmad Yani Airport, 61 from Soekarno Hatta Airport, and others from Adi Soemarmo Solo Airport, Yogyakarta International Airport, and various other locations. Among the 95 respondents who chose Ahmad Yani for departure, 90 were from China, with others from Singapore, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Vietnam, Europe, Australia, and more. Sakina Rosellasari, the head of DPMPTSP Central Java, emphasized the urgency of reopening international flights, given the significant foreign investment (PMA) in Central Java, particularly from Singapore, which is projected to reach IDR 8.67 trillion in 2024. Furthermore, Singapore has assets in Central Java, specifically the Kendal Special Economic Zone (KEK), making the establishment of international flight routes crucial to meet the needs of PMA investors, especially those from Singapore.

Sakina noted that business operators are optimistic about the opening of international routes at Ahmad Yani Airport in Semarang, as it would reduce travel costs and time to Central Java.
