Prabowo Wants To Streamline Flights To Lower Hajj Costs Next Year

Wednesday, 07 May 2025

President Prabowo Subianto will further reduce the cost of the Hajj pilgrimage for 2026. He said that flights will be made more efficient so that the cost of the Hajj can be further reduced. "We are fighting with all parties, the Minister of Religion, the Head of the Hajj Agency, we are looking for the most likely to reduce it again, reduce it again," said Prabowo at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Tangerang, Sunday (4/5/2025). "And later all flights will also be made more efficient. Wherever we can reduce costs, we will do it," he continued.

Prabowo said that he would also fly to Saudi Arabia in order to build an Indonesian village in the Holy Land.

He claimed to have asked for time with the Saudi Arabian leader to visit. Meanwhile, Prabowo is satisfied with the facilities of Terminal 2F Special for Hajj and Umrah at Soetta Airport which was just inaugurated. "I think it's very good, extraordinary, this is historic. And we saw our congregation outside, in hot tents, many are elderly, many in wheelchairs. Now we are doing more humanely, comfortably, safely. This is an achievement," Prabowo added. Meanwhile, Deputy Head of the Hajj Organizing Agency (BP) Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak will look for costs that can still be made more efficient, without having to reduce the quality of service.

"That is indeed one of the things the President has said since the beginning, that's why the President's term is to trace cost components starting from transportation, starting from consumption, accommodation," said Dahnil at the Special Terminal for Hajj and Umrah at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Tangerang, Sunday. "Of course our tough task in 2026 is to trace the costs that form the cost of the hajj, so that they can be reduced, especially those that cause inefficiency, but do not reduce service," he continued. Dahnil explained that catering and transportation costs could actually be reduced further. Moreover, the plane chartered to take the hajj pilgrims to the Holy Land will return empty, aka without passengers. "So the cost is borne by the congregation. So we want to push a scheme so that for example when they return, for example Garuda or Saudi Airlines, they don't return empty. One of them is cooperation with the tourism sector in Saudi, because local residents usually go out during the hajj season, they go on vacation. Those are the schemes that we are discussing so that we can reduce flight costs," added Dahnil.
