The Indonesian national team will enter the most decisive phase in the long journey towards the 2026 World Cup. The fourth round of the Asian World Cup Qualifiers will be held from 8 to 14 October 2025, and team manager Sumardji emphasized that their target is very clear: to bring Indonesia to the World Cup for the first time in history. In this fourth round, the six remaining teams, including Indonesia, will be divided into two groups of three teams. The round-robin format of one meeting makes each match a life-and-death match. Only the group winners will immediately get a ticket to the final round in the United States, Mexico, and Canada. Indonesia will compete with five other strong teams, namely the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Iraq, Oman, and Saudi Arabia. Based on the pot division from Footy Rankings, Indonesia is in Pot 3 with Oman. This means that Indonesia will not meet Oman, but has the potential to face tough opponents such as Qatar or Saudi Arabia. National Team Manager Sumardji said that the players' struggle is not over yet. Despite ending the third round with a crushing 0-6 defeat to Japan, he remains optimistic about the Garuda squad's chances. "We will make our nation and country proud because our goal is to go to the World Cup," he said.
