AI Technology Could Boost Economic Growth By 8 Percent

Artificial intelligence (AI) technology is no longer just a concept, but has become part of everyday life.

Director of Artificial Intelligence and New Technology Ecosystem of the Ministry of Communication and Digital (Kemenkomdigi) Aju Widya Sari said, from industrial automation, big data analysis, to personalization of digital services, this technology has become one of the main drivers of national economic growth. The government is targeting national economic growth to reach 8% by 2029, and AI technology plays a role in realizing this target.

"The question that arises now is no longer whether we will utilize AI, but to what extent we can maximize the potential of AI inclusively and strategically," said Aju Widya while delivering a keynote speech at the 2025 Selular Award event, in Jakarta, Monday (5/26/2025) evening.

Aju said, a number of sectors have shown real use of AI. In the health sector, AI is used for more accurate diagnosis, faster drug development, to personalized telemedicine services.

In agriculture, this technology helps in weather prediction, irrigation automation, and data-based crop mapping. In the financial sector, AI is able to detect fraud in real-time and improve customer experience through virtual assistants. Even the manufacturing and e-commerce industries have enjoyed the benefits of intelligent automation and customer behavior analysis.

The mobile sector is no less strategic. Aju said that with the high penetration of smartphones in Indonesia, AI can be a tool for equalizing access to digital services.

"AI in the mobile industry has been used to improve customer experience, such as virtual assistants, service personalization, and network security," he explained.

However, Aju reminded that building a strong AI ecosystem requires three main pillars, namely people, platform, and policy. He emphasized the importance of human resource readiness as the main foundation. Without human resources who are ready to face the AI ??era, digital transformation will face major obstacles.
