The Governor of Jakarta, Pramono Anung, announced that the Jakarta Provincial Government has established a stand at the Cannes Film Festival in France, which concluded on Saturday (May 24, 2025). This marks the first time Indonesia has participated in this prestigious international film festival. "This is the first time Indonesia has a stand at the Cannes Festival, something that was previously unimaginable," Pramono stated during his speech at Jakarta Marketing Week on Sunday (May 25, 2025). Although the stand is not particularly large, it represents a significant initial step towards realizing Jakarta's ambition of becoming a Global City. "Even though the stand is modest, it is still important to have one; it is crucial to demonstrate that Jakarta is part of the global city landscape," Pramono remarked. With Jakarta's participation representing Indonesia at the Cannes Film Festival, Pramono emphasized that Jakarta is ready to be recognized as a Global City. "This illustrates to the world that we are prepared to be part of a global city, aiming to be among the top 20 global cities by 2045," he expressed. Pramono also conveyed a message to Jakarta's Deputy Governor Rano Karno, who attended the film festival, to promote Betawi culture. "I even told Bang Doel, when he was heading to the Cannes Film Festival in France, 'Bang, if you go, Jakarta must have a stand there,'" Pramono added. The cultural stand brought by Rano to the event is the Jakarta-Indonesia Pavilion, showcasing Indonesia's creative works. This stand also serves as a dialogue space between Indonesian filmmakers and the international film industry community. Witnessing the festival firsthand, Rano expressed hope that Jakarta would be able to host an international film festival in the future. "In 2027, Jakarta will celebrate its 500th anniversary. I hope Jakarta will be capable of organizing an international film festival," Rano stated.
