The Government Uses European Union Regulations As A Benchmark For Digital Governance

, 04 May 2025

The Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital, Nezar Patria, stated that the government is using European Union regulations as a reference for developing digital governance. As mentioned in a press release from the ministry in Jakarta on Monday, he noted that the EU regulations concerning digital services and markets, including those related to artificial intelligence (AI), have been adopted by numerous countries. 'We believe that the Digital Services Act (DSA) and the Digital Markets Act (DMA) represent some of the best frameworks. Of course, we need to adapt them at certain points...' he remarked, referring to the EU regulations on digital services and markets. 'One of the most crucial aspects when discussing digital transformation for this country, besides artificial intelligence, is how to manage platforms.

Cybersecurity is also an area we need to study in platform regulation,' he explained. The European Union Ambassador to Indonesia, Denis Chaibi, emphasized the importance of regulations regarding the development and utilization of technology, including artificial intelligence. Denis encouraged the Indonesian government to send a delegation to the EU event focused on digital governance, which will be held in Brussels, Belgium, and Stockholm, Sweden. 'This will facilitate interaction with officials who are central to the regulatory preparation.

In Stockholm, there will be a cybersecurity dialogue, and we believe the Ministry of Communication and Digital may be interested,' he stated. He also expressed that Indonesia and the European Union could gain significant benefits from cooperation in the digital sector.
