A total of 2,500 participants from various regions in East Java took part in the casting for the science fiction film titled "Foufo," directed by Bayu Skak, held in Surabaya on Sunday.

"The enthusiasm of the participants today is truly remarkable. They have come from different areas in East Java, including Probolinggo, Lumajang, and Banyuwangi," stated Surabaya's Deputy Mayor Armuji, who attended the casting process for "Foufo."

"This is a golden opportunity for the younger generation to showcase their talents in the film industry," Armuji added, noting that he will also play a role in the film.

Armuji emphasized that the city government fully supports local film production efforts. "The Surabaya city government is certainly committed to this, especially since the story highlights the unique culture of East Java and Madura," he remarked.

The film "Foufo" tells the story of a UFO that makes an emergency landing and is discovered by three individuals from Madura.

Actor and director Bayu Skak mentioned that the dialogue in "Foufo" will be in the Madurese language. "Madura has a unique and strong regional language. In this film, I want to showcase authenticity. Therefore, if the accent is Madurese, the dialogue must also be in Madurese," he explained.

Bayu expressed his desire for all the main cast members of his new film to be from East Java. He plans to select 18 individuals from the audition participants to play key roles. "In Jakarta, casting often considers social media followers first. Here, that doesn't matter. What’s important is being bold, fully committed to acting, and being able to portray the character convincingly," he stated.

Filming for "Foufo" is scheduled to begin in May 2025, with most of the shooting taking place in North Surabaya.
