WhatsApp Develops New Media Storage Options

Wednesday, 09 Apr 2025

Instant messaging application, WhatsApp, has again developed a media storage option for both new images or videos so that users can prevent other users from automatically saving the media after it is sent.

This feature is said to be a new privacy feature and is visible in the latest beta version for Android as reported by GSM Arena, Friday (4/4).

Because it is still being developed, it is not certain that this feature will be available immediately and still needs further polishing to be present in the stable version.

Even so, in the beta version that is already available when this feature is applied, it will allow users to add better privacy, allowing media recipients not to be able to automatically save media sent to them on their devices.

Normally, before this feature existed, WhatsApp automatically saved every form of media received by users on their phones. However, when this feature is implemented, users will have the option to prevent other people's phones from saving photos or videos on their phones.

A similar thing has actually been applied to disappearing messages, what's new about this latest feature is that users can set it for normal messages and related media as well.

This feature will also restrict the export of the entire chat history for chats with users who have enabled this new setting. However, this will not prevent forwarding of messages.

Also, if a user enables this “advanced chat privacy,” other participants in the chat with the user will not be able to use Meta AI in any way.

Of course, WhatsApp can add more to this feature while it is still in development. In any case, when it is rolled out to everyone, this feature will be optional.
