Rano Karno Officially Inaugurated As Deputy Governor Of Jakarta, Remembers Benyamin Sueb's Message

Rano Karno was officially inaugurated as Deputy Governor of Jakarta by President Prabowo Subianto on Thursday (20/2/2025). 

Ahead of his inauguration, Rano shared a clip from the legendary soap opera Si Doel Anak Sekolahan, which shows his feud with his father, Babeh Sabeni (Benyamin Sueb). 

In the scene uploaded by Rano, Doel—the character he plays—receives a job offer in Natuna after having difficulty finding work after graduating from college. He hopes that his father will be proud because he finally got a job. 

However, instead of being happy, Babeh Sabeni is angry. For him, as a native Betawi child, Doel should have worked and served in his homeland, Jakarta.

Who would have thought, the message that used to only exist in soap operas has now come true. Doel, who was once asked by Babeh to build Jakarta, is now really serving as Deputy Governor. 

"In the past, Babeh's only hope was to see his son succeed. 'Don't just be an oplet driver, be a governor.' And today, that dream has finally come true," said Rano Karno. 

After being inaugurated, Rano expressed his commitment to carry out his mandate as best as he could. He also asked for prayers so that he could work well for the people of Jakarta. 

"Doel is ready to be inaugurated, Nyak... Beh... Bismillah, Nyak, Beh! Pray for Doel so that he can work for Jakarta, for all its citizens," said Rano. 

Interestingly, this is not the first time that Babeh Sabeni's words in Si Doel Anak Sekolahan have come true in Rano Karno's life. 

In the past, Babeh once joked that Doel should be a governor, not just an oplet driver. That statement was proven true when Rano Karno served as Governor of Banten.
