Alibaba Cloud Has Announced New AI Models, Tools, And Infrastructure That Are Now Available

Thursday, 23 Jan 2025

Alibaba Cloud, the backbone of Alibaba Group's digital technology and intelligence, announced the launch of a series of large language models (LLMs) and more comprehensive AI development tools at the Alibaba Cloud Developer Summit 2025, themed AI FORWARD. Additionally, Alibaba Cloud is providing advanced infrastructure and new support programs for developers worldwide. These updates aim to help developers create innovative AI applications at lower costs and promote the growth of the global generative AI community.

"Alibaba Cloud is dedicated to delivering real benefits to developers around the world with cutting-edge AI models, improved cloud infrastructure, and accessible support programs," said Dongliang Guo, Vice President of International Business and Head of International Products and Solutions at Alibaba Cloud Intelligence. "Together, we aim to drive more AI-based innovations that benefit startups, enterprises, and various industries globally."

More Foundation Models and Development Tools for Developers

The latest Qwen models, part of Alibaba Cloud's LLM lineup, include the Qwen2.5 series, with sizes ranging from 7 billion to 72 billion parameters, now available via API on their generative AI development platform, Model Studio. Additionally, multimodal API models such as the vision understanding model Qwen-VL, the visual generation model Wanx2.1 (also known as Tongyi Wanxiang), and the audio language model Qwen-Audio are also accessible to developers.

Developers can also utilize Tongyi Lingma, Alibaba Cloud's AI coding assistant powered by the Qwen 2.5-coder model. This AI Programmer offers features like code completion and optimization, debugging assistance, code snippet search, and batch unit test generation.

Developers can enjoy a more efficient and smooth coding experience with this tool, leading to a significant boost in their productivity and creativity.

In addition to offering a wider range of models, several new AI development tools are accessible to developers worldwide through Model Studio. These tools include Workflow, which breaks down complex tasks into subtasks for better workflow control, and Agent, which facilitates multi-agent collaboration for planning and executing tasks.

Other tools like RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) enhance the accuracy and reliability of generative AI models using external sources; Batch Reasoning generates responses simultaneously for multiple input commands; AutoEval (Automated Model Evaluation); and model deployment and application observability services will be available by the end of this month.

Infrastructure Enhancements for AI Development

To support robust computing for AI development and other critical workloads, Alibaba Cloud has announced that the 9th Generation Enterprise Elastic Compute Service (ECS) will be available globally starting this April. This latest ECS generation offers significant performance improvements over previous versions, including a 20% increase in computing efficiency. Additionally, by accelerating the network through eRDMA (elastic Remote Direct Memory Access), its performance in supporting high-performance computing, search recommendations, and Redis databases can improve by up to 50%.

Alibaba Cloud also revealed that its innovative service, Alibaba Cloud Container Compute Service (ACS), will be available to international customers starting January 2025. Designed to simplify and optimize workload deployment using container technology, ACS integrates container services with the underlying cloud computing resources.
