Tuesday, 22 Oct 2024

As the term of the Indonesia Maju Cabinet comes to an end, the journey of the Merah Putih Cabinet led by President Prabowo Subianto has officially begun. This is followed by the preparation of a complete lineup of officials who will help drive the progress of Indonesia in the future. Thanks to his hard work and impressive track record in managing the economy during uncertain times, Airlangga Hartarto has been reappointed by President Prabowo Subianto to steer the national economy, with hopes of achieving remarkable results ahead.

On October 21, 2024, Airlangga Hartarto was officially sworn in as the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs for the 2024-2029 term, following the Presidential Decree No. 133/P of the Republic of Indonesia regarding the establishment of state ministries and the appointment of ministers for the Merah Putih Cabinet.

“First of all, I want to thank everyone for the smooth execution of the inauguration by the President today. Alhamdulillah, I will carry out this mandate to the best of my ability,” said Minister Airlangga during a press conference at the Presidential Palace after the inauguration ceremony.

Furthermore, Minister Airlangga mentioned that there will be further discussions regarding the stages of assignments, including future fiscal policies. Regarding long-term economic sectors, he emphasized that the government will continue to boost public purchasing power to ensure it remains optimal.

After the inauguration ceremony at the Presidential Palace, Minister Airlangga received a warm welcome from all officials and staff at the Ministry of Economic Affairs upon his arrival at the office.

In an internal meeting with the leadership team of the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, Minister Airlangga shared that there have been updates to the structure of the ministry in the current Red and White Cabinet compared to the previous Indonesia Maju Cabinet.

Some ministries are no longer under the coordination of the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, and there’s also an expanded scope of responsibilities that now includes investment, energy and natural resources, as well as tourism. This increase in coordination aspects definitely raises the stakes in terms of responsibilities and challenges ahead, so Minister Airlangga is committed to continuing to deliver the best results.

Looking ahead, in line with the targets set by President Prabowo Subianto, the national economy will be pushed to grow, create job opportunities, and reduce poverty rates. Minister Airlangga also discussed several upcoming programs, including refining subsidy programs, advancing renewable energy, and enhancing international economic cooperation, with upcoming forums like G20 and APEC on the horizon.

“Coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is crucial since there’s a new realignment happening. We need to collaborate with all ministries, including those outside the economic coordination. We have to address fiscal policy and trade policy, and we can’t overlook the Ministry of Finance,” Minister Airlangga emphasized.

Regarding the various structural changes and future policy directions, Minister Airlangga mentioned that internal adjustments will be possible, and he hopes these changes can be implemented smoothly and swiftly.
