Indonesia, as one of the countries with the largest Muslim population in the world, has great potential in developing halal industry products and services. PT Kereta Api Logistik (KAI Logistik), a subsidiary of the KAI Group, is further equipping itself to strengthen its position in the domestic logistics industry by obtaining halal certification. Heri Siswanto, Director of Operations at KAI Logistik, stated, "The halal certification we have obtained is a manifestation of the company's compliance with applicable regulations. It is also an effort to meet the demands of our multi-commodity customers, especially in the FMCG (Fast Moving Consumer Goods) sector, who require end-to-end product halal safety assurance throughout the supply chain, including the product distribution process. This is certainly in line with the tagline 'KAI Logistik is possible', which means everything is possible with KAI Logistik." Based on Government Regulation of the Republic of Indonesia Number 39 of 2021 concerning the Implementation of Halal Product Assurance, logistics services are included as one of the services that need to be halal certified before October 17, 2024, as they are closely related to the product distribution process, such as food, beverages, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and others. KAI Logistik has successfully obtained halal certification issued by BPJPH (Halal Product Assurance Organizing Agency) with ID number 00410018283070424 on June 14, 2024, for the type of Distribution Services registered at 3 (three) terminals, namely the Sungai Lagoa Cargo Terminal, Klari Cargo Terminal, and Kalimas Cargo Terminal. The acquisition of this certification went through a series of processes, including business registration on the BPJPH SIHALAL portal, halal inspection of the implementation of the Halal Product Assurance System (SJPH), which is an integrated system designed, implemented, and maintained to regulate distribution services and procedures to ensure the continuity of the halal product process. Through the successful acquisition of halal certification, KAI Logistics can provide assurance to multi-commodity customers in need of halal standard container transport services. The guarantee provided not only covers the storage and delivery processes of containers at the Container Yard, but also includes the container washing process that will be used according to the halal Standard Operating Procedure for container washing. This becomes an added value for customers who collaborate with KAI Logistics. Muhammad Aqil Irham, Head of the Halal Product Assurance Organizing Agency (BPJPH), revealed, "Halal certification in Indonesia implements a traceability system, where checks will be traced from upstream to downstream. KAI Logistics as a subsidiary of a state-owned enterprise sets a good example and is worth emulating by other logistics service companies, to provide certainty of halal assurance for products from farm to fork. Therefore, the maturity of this halal ecosystem helps us in carrying out the obligation of halal certification which will begin in October this year, especially for medium, large, and foreign industries. The hope is that this can be replicated so that if the upstream sector is already halal certified, our MSME players will find it much easier to obtain halal certification." Although the halal certification provided is lifetime, KAI Logistics will still be committed to continuously paying attention to the responsibility of providing halal assurance through internal audits by KAI Logistics supervisors conducted at least once a year and external audits by BPJPH and halal product assurance stakeholders. The seriousness of KAI Logistics in ensuring standardization can also be proven by the halal certification training conducted for a number of KAI Logistics personnel representatives.
