The AIBP Conference and Exhibition, supported by the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology and the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, will discuss the main technological challenges and opportunities in Indonesia. Taking place at the Ritz-Carlton Jakarta, Mega Kuningan, this event will bring together industry leaders, policymakers, and community members to drive innovation, teamwork, and partnerships. Today's press conference outlined some key topics for this year's AIBP Conference & Exhibition. AI Governance and Regulation: Addressing Public Concerns and Building a Strong Framework While AI offers many benefits, public concerns about its use remain high. To address this issue, strong regulations are needed, especially regarding privacy and intellectual property. Effective AI governance involves collaboration between policymakers, industry leaders, and the public to ensure ethical and practical use of AI. The ongoing AIBP Innovation Survey for 2024 highlights that 82% of Indonesian respondents see privacy and security issues as the main barriers to AI implementation. Overcoming these challenges is crucial to accelerating AI innovation in Indonesia. Digital Economy and Skill Development: Bridging the Skills Gap Indonesia's digital economy has promising potential if given the right support in terms of human resources training and infrastructure. Bridging the skills gap through extensive digital competency training is key to unlocking the full potential of AI technology and automation. Strategic investments in integrated data platforms, data analytics, business intelligence software, and improved connectivity will drive significant digital transformation and progress. Overcoming Implementation Barriers: Ethical and Practical Use of AI Implementing ethical guidelines in AI is crucial, especially in sensitive areas like elections and social media. However, there are still practical challenges in implementing AI technology ethically and safely. This event will serve as a platform to discuss and address these issues. Based on the ongoing AIBP Innovation Survey, 8% of companies in Indonesia reported that Generative AI has significantly transformed their businesses, compared to 18% of companies in Thailand. This gap highlights opportunities for the business world in Indonesia to enhance their understanding of AI and accelerate AI initiatives to unlock new business opportunities. AI and Automation in Workforce: Managing Job Displacement and Sectoral Impacts Automation poses a threat to jobs, hence the need for strategic workforce transitions and retraining programs. The ongoing 2024 AIBP Innovation Survey shows an increase in AI adoption among businesses in Indonesia, with 63% creating strategies and roadmaps focused on AI and 67% exploring the use of AI for process automation. As industries face varying levels of disruption, automation strategies need to be adjusted. This conference aims to address overcoming these challenges to formulate smooth transition strategies for the workforce. Irza Fauzan Suprapto, CFA, CEO, Industry Platform Singapore, opened the event by highlighting the current state of Data and AI. "Data and AI are the foundation of digital transformation in Indonesia, empowering businesses and government institutions to optimize operational aspects, improve decision-making, and enhance customer experiences."
