Wednesday, 03 Jul 2024

The Ministry of Industry continues to increase the capacity and expand the market for small and medium metal craft industries through a series of facilitation and guidance. In order to reach the global arena, it is a challenge for SMEs to actively innovate in order to enhance their competitiveness.

"The dynamics of the current global economic conditions that affect the export market demand that metal craft SMEs, such as those in Tumang, can also focus more on the international market. In addition, the condition of metal craft SMEs in Tumang still involves manual production processes, so the consistency and quality of production still need to be improved and have the potential to be further enhanced," said the Director General of Small, Medium, and Various Industries (IKMA) of the Ministry of Industry, Reni Yanitadi Boyolali, Central Java, on Friday (28/6).

The Director General of IKMA stated that they have carried out various series of guidance activities for metal craft SMEs, including assisting in automating the production process for metal craft SMEs in the Boyolali Regency Center.

"We help overcome production process issues in terms of forming patterns or textures (embossing) on copper plates that are still done manually, which impacts the effectiveness and productivity of workers, especially for products with high market demand," she explained.

During the trial phase of using machines in the production process, according to Reni, the evaluation results showed an increase in production capacity and work time effectiveness, as well as a decrease in the amount of wasted material (scrap).

"Technological intervention needs to be done through automating the production process, which in this case involves a machine that creates textures on copper plates, with the hope that metal craft SMEs in Tumang and other metal craft centers throughout Indonesia can utilize these machines and switch to a more effective and efficient metal craft production process," Reni expressed.

On Thursday (27/6), the Directorate General of IKMA of the Ministry of Industry held a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) on Facilitating Market Expansion for Metal Craft SMEs in Boyolali Regency. The agenda also included a symbolic handover of machines for the automation of production processes for metal craft SMEs in the Boyolali Regency Center.

The FGD involved 50 participants from metal craft SMEs in Tumang, and featured speakers from relevant stakeholders in the metal craft industry. Also present as speakers were the Deputy Assistant for Community Economic Empowerment and Entrepreneurship of the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs and the Boyolali Regency Trade and Industry Office.

Meanwhile, the speakers discussed the provision of raw materials by PT. Indra Eramulti Logam Industri (IMLI), technological solutions by PT. Indotech Trimitra Abadi and Ganesha Inovasi Teknologi (GIT), as well as domestic market partnership collaboration by the Association of Indonesian Interior Designers (HDII) and the Indonesian Furniture and Craft Industry Association (ASMINDO).

"Through this opportunity, we hope that all participants will continue to consistently improve their businesses and hopefully, after this FGD, a wider marketing network can be established," said Reni.

The Director of Metal, Machinery, and Transport Equipment SMEs, Dini Hanggandari, also stated that in order to develop SMEs until they are ready to partner, Government Regulation No. 29 of 2018 on Industrial Empowerment has been issued, which includes various development programs.
