Achieve Industry 4.0 Goals, The Ministry Of Industry Initiates The Jakarta Digital Industrial Parkway

Thursday, 26 Dec 2024

As a major metropolitan area and business hub in Indonesia, Jakarta is primarily focused on service activities, including digital industry services. Data on digital industry services in Jakarta shows three main clusters: Simatupang Corridor, Kuningan Corridor, and Sudirman Corridor. These corridors are strategic areas in Jakarta with significant potential for the growth of digital industry services.

The Ministry of Industry reports that key activities in Jakarta's digital corridors include business entrepreneurship, community engagement, innovation and research, education and training, among others. According to the Ministry, total investment in these three digital corridors in Jakarta amounts to IDR 12 trillion, with Sudirman Corridor receiving IDR 7.71 trillion, Kuningan Corridor getting IDR 3.87 trillion, and Simatupang Corridor at IDR 424 billion.

To promote the development of digital industry service clusters in Jakarta, the Ministry of Industry has initiated the Jakarta Digital Industrial Parkway (JDIP), a special development concept focused on digital industry services, said Eko S. A. Cahyanto, Acting Director General of Industrial Resilience, Regional Development, and International Industrial Access, in a statement in Jakarta on Tuesday (December 24).

The Acting Director General noted that JDIP aligns with the goals of the Making Indonesia 4.0 roadmap. JDIP is expected to act as a catalyst for developing the digital industry service ecosystem in Indonesia, ultimately fostering innovation across various industrial sectors.

The development of JDIP also aims to create a positive impact on economic growth by attracting investments and generating jobs in the digital industry sector. Additionally, it seeks to encourage new innovations in digital industry services and enhance the competitiveness of the national industry.

To optimize the development of JDIP, Eko stated that follow-up actions are necessary. This includes improving infrastructure for digital industry services like transportation and energy, enhancing human resources in the digital service sector through collaboration with universities and vocational schools to produce skilled graduates, and promoting JDIP as an attractive investment location for digital industry services.

Additionally, innovative regulations are needed to support the climate and growth of the digital industry services, along with strengthening partnerships between the government, digital industry players, and academics, Eko explained.

Earlier, during the Kaleidoscope Industrial Wrap 2024 & Branding Jakarta Digital Industrial Parkway event at CIBIS Park in the TB Simatupang area of Jakarta, the Acting Director General of KPAII introduced the JDIP branding to increase its recognition among digital industry players and relevant stakeholders.

JDIP includes 17 classifications of Indonesian Standard Industrial Classification (KBLI) for digital industry services, primarily focusing on software publishing, video game development, e-commerce application development, other computer programming activities, information security consulting, data processing, hosting, web portals and/or digital platforms, and Internet of Things (IoT) service provision.

In the Simatupang Corridor, which stretches about 8 kilometers from the Pasar Minggu intersection to the Pondok Pinang intersection, there are 34 digital industry companies along with numerous office buildings and business centers. The Simatupang Corridor benefits from high accessibility, available telecommunications infrastructure, and proximity to residential areas and several campuses/universities. Plans for developing public transport access along TB Simatupang Road also hold potential to support the growth of JDIP.
