The Ministry of Industry, along with local governments, is actively working to support small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the region to become more productive and innovative. The SME sector has been a backbone of the national economy. An example of this collaboration is seen with the Makassar Industrial Standardization and Service Center for Plantation Products, Minerals, and Maritime (BBSPJIHPMM), which has partnered with the East Luwu District Government. Both parties have agreed to enhance and develop the competitiveness of the SME sector. "This partnership is a clear demonstration of collaboration between the central and local governments to boost the competitiveness of local industries in East Luwu. With technical support from BBSPJIHPMM Makassar, we are confident that the potential of local industries can be maximized, benefiting not only competitiveness but also the wider community," said Andi Rizaldi, Head of the Industrial Standardization and Policy Agency (BSKJI), in a statement in Jakarta on Friday (December 13). The collaboration between BBSPJIHPMM Makassar and the East Luwu District Government covers various areas, including the development of local industry capacity, testing and certification, and technical training or support for businesses to improve operational efficiency and sustainability. The industries being promoted in East Luwu include processing of plantation products, minerals and metals, as well as maritime sectors. "This synergy is expected to positively impact the capabilities of industries and enhance product competitiveness, thereby contributing to economic development in the region, especially in East Luwu," Andi added. According to the Head of BSKJI, the BBSPJIHPMM Makassar unit is ready to meet the needs for industrial services, including product testing, environmental monitoring, calibration, product certification, technical inspections, halal checks, industrial consulting, and verification of local content. In addition, technical assistance services, green industry certification, and optimization of digital technology use help companies and entrepreneurs improve their competitiveness by creating small and medium enterprise (SME) products that meet certification and Indonesian National Standards. "We also hope that the collaboration between BBSPJIHPMM and the East Luwu Regional Government can lead to a productive industry. We aim to support SMEs in expanding their market access through training and technical guidance on product standardization and necessary skills," said Shinta Virdhian, Head of BBSPJIHPMM Makassar. Shinta mentioned several collaborations that BBSPJIHPMM Makassar has undertaken with the East Luwu Regional Government and business actors, including SPPT SNI AMDK product certification with various businesses, environmental monitoring testing with companies under the supervision of the Environmental Agency, and technical assistance for cocoa entrepreneurs supported by the Agriculture and Food Security Office. Meanwhile, Acting Regent of East Luwu, Jayadi Nas, expressed optimism about this partnership as a real step in supporting industrial progress. "Our partnership with BBSPJIHPMM will strengthen our commitment to building a technology-based, competitive region. This aligns with our vision to make East Luwu a center for sustainable economic growth," he stated. Regarding assistance for improving the competitiveness and quality of SME products, Jayadi added that activities could include optimizing equipment technology and product downstreaming based on the natural resource potential in East Luwu. "All of this can be part of the cooperation with the Department of Trade, Cooperatives, SMEs, and Industry of East Luwu," he added.
