Wednesday, 19 Jun 2024

The signing of the MoU marks a new chapter in the domestic maritime tourism industry and reaffirms Indonesia's position as a prime cruise ship destination in the Asian region. With this collaboration, it is hoped that there will be an increase in cruise ship visits to Indonesia. According to Pelindo's Director, Putut Sri Muljanto, "This MoU signing signifies a new era in the domestic maritime tourism industry and confirms Indonesia's position as the main cruise ship destination in the Asian region. With this collaboration, we hope to see an increase in cruise ship visits to Indonesia."

Pelindo and Resorts World Cruises have agreed to collaborate and further explore the potential for cooperation and joint development in the future in the cruise ship terminal business in various locations in Indonesia, increasing cruise ship visits to Pelindo-owned ports, collaboration in promoting the tourism and cruise ship industry in Indonesia, as well as the development and service of domestic cruise ship routes in Indonesia.

"With Indonesia's potential as a growing market and tourist destination, we hope to support the development of the tourism sector both to and from Indonesia, thereby improving the local economy and other sectors related to the tourism industry," said Resorts World Cruises President, Michael Goh.

This collaboration is in line with the government's policy to continuously develop the tourism industry. Indonesia has many potential maritime tourist destinations that can become cruise ship destinations, such as Bali, Labuan Bajo, Lombok, Raja Ampat, and others.

The Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) as the regulator also plays an active role in promoting tourism, especially maritime tourism, through the formulation of supportive regulations for the cruise ship industry. Capt. Hendri Ginting, Director of Shipping and Seafaring at Kemenhub, said that the development of cruise ship routes in Indonesia can stimulate an increase in the number of tourists from both domestic and foreign sources.

Currently, we are in the process of refining regulations to provide better services for foreign cruise ship operations in Indonesia. This includes the possibility of transporting tourists from domestic ports for sightseeing, exploring various tourist spots and destinations, before returning to the original port," explained Capt. Hendri.

He added that Pelindo, as the largest port operator in Indonesia, is ready to support cruise ship visits in Indonesia. There are more than 20 ports managed by Pelindo that serve cruise ship visits, including Tanjung Priok, Tanjung Perak, Tanjung Emas, Belawan, Makassar, Benoa, Gili Mas, Labuan Bajo, and Sorong.

"The next step is to strengthen connectivity to ports in the west and east so that the distribution of tourists can be more evenly spread. Currently, Pelindo is developing the infrastructure of Benoa Port in Bali, namely Bali Maritime Tourism Hub, and also Gilimas Port in Lombok, so that these ports can become the main cruise ship destinations in the eastern region of Indonesia," concluded Putut.
