Wednesday, 12 Jun 2024

BCA, through Bakti BCA, is revitalizing the Coffee Plantation Cikoneng in North Tugu Village, Bogor, as a form of commitment to provide positive impact to the community. In collaboration with the National Coffee Foundation (YKN) and the Department of Food Crops, Horticulture & Plantation (Distanhorbun) of Bogor Regency, BCA provides guidance, counseling, and assistance in facilities to the Sustainable Cikoneng Farmers Group and the Advanced Together Farmers Group.

BCA realizes that the productivity of arabica coffee planted by farmers in the Coffee Plantation Cikoneng has not been optimal. As a result, farmers' income is not sufficient to maintain the plantation. However, the agricultural products from the Coffee Plantation Cikoneng have great potential to improve the economy of the community and farmers there because they are cultivated together with other plants such as pine, chili, avocado, guava, and oranges.

EVP Corporate Communication & Social Responsibility BCA Hera F. Haryn said, "We understand the importance of the existence of the Coffee Plantation Cikoneng as one of the sources of income for the community in North Tugu Village. To increase the productivity of coffee farmers there, Bakti BCA carries out revitalization through a series of guidance, counseling, and various agricultural technical assistance. We hope that through this initiative, farmers can become more productive so that their income and standard of living increase. We believe that the positive impact will not only benefit the farmers, but also the community and business partners."

Conducted on a 10-hectare plantation, the beneficiary farmers will receive counseling and guidance for one year on strategies and technological innovations to increase the productivity of their plantations. Through the Field School initiated by YKN together with DistanhorbunKab. Bogor, the beneficiaries will be taught how to use environmentally friendly fertilizers, effective tree branch pruning, and soil and water conservation through the creation of multi-purpose ditches or roraks.

Based on the gathered data, it is estimated that after the revitalization is carried out, coffee bean production per hectare and the income of coffee farmers in Cikoneng Coffee Plantation are expected to increase by more than 120% in 2025. In 2024, the average coffee bean production from 10 hectares of land in Cikoneng Coffee Plantation is estimated to reach 308.9 kilograms per hectare.

Head of the Department of Food Crops, Horticulture & Plantation of Bogor, EntisSutisna, said, "We appreciate BCA's efforts in improving the effectiveness and productivity of coffee plants in Bogor Regency, especially in Cikoneng Coffee Plantation. The revitalization program that we are running together with BCA includes coaching and providing agricultural assistance to farmers on more effective and efficient farming techniques.

We hope that with this initiative, farmers can increase the productivity and quality of their plantations, gradually overcome the challenges faced in the cultivation process, and have a positive impact on the surrounding environment and Bogor Regency in general."
