As part of the commemoration of World Environment Day (HLH), Minister of Environment and Forestry, Siti Nurbaya, inaugurated 2 (two) Public Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (SPKLU) in the Gendung Manggala Wanabakti area, the Central Office of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) in Jakarta, on Sunday, June 9, 2024. "The installation of 2 (two) SPKLU units in the KLHK area is an important step in supporting the development of the electric vehicle ecosystem in Indonesia," said Minister Siti. The SPKLU in Manggala Wanabakti is equipped with 2 types, namely fast and medium charging, with a charging time of only 30 minutes for vehicles and a cost of Rp. 2,466.78/kWh. "I have instructed all Eselon I KLHK officials to use electric vehicles as official vehicles, this is intended to set an example and can be implemented by other units. In addition, the conversion of conventional motorcycles owned by KLHK employees to electric vehicles has also begun, along with the elders' community," said Minister Siti. Before the inauguration of the SPKLU, KLHK conducted a campaign for the use of electric vehicles in the form of Fun Riding or electric motorcycle convoys from the KLHK Central Office in Kebon Nanas to the KLHK Central Office in Manggala Wanabakti, covering a distance of approximately 12.3 km. Inspiring Environmental Preservation KLHK hopes that this campaign for the use of environmentally friendly vehicles can inspire many people to take concrete steps in preserving the environment. "Let us make this moment the starting point for a major change towards a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable environment," said Minister Siti. Minister Siti appreciates the active participation of all parties who have supported the success of this event, such as the electric motorcycle community and the sponsors, especially PT. PLN (Persero) who has assisted in the construction of the SPKLU. The SPKLU has made it easier and more convenient for electric vehicle users to charge their vehicle batteries. This shows that the government and related parties are very serious about building adequate infrastructure to promote the adoption of electric vehicles in society. The Indonesian government has shown a strong commitment to supporting the development and use of electric vehicles as part of a strategy to control air pollution and reduce dependence on fossil fuels. One concrete step taken is the launch of Presidential Regulation Number 55 of 2019 concerning the Acceleration of Battery-Based Electric Motor Vehicle Programs for Road Transportation. This policy aims to encourage the production and use of electric vehicles domestically, as well as build supporting infrastructure such as electric charging stations spread across various regions. KLHK is committed to continuously supporting the development and use of environmentally friendly technology. Various programs and policies have been formulated to encourage innovation and investment in the electric vehicle sector. KLHK has issued Minister of Environment and Forestry Regulation Number 8 of 2023 concerning the Implementation of Emission Standards for Motor Vehicles Categories M, N, O, and L, which regulates that emission test results as administrative requirements for motor vehicle tax payment. In efforts to control air pollution, the government has also intensified air quality monitoring programs and emission control. Through collaboration with various agencies and institutions, programs such as motor vehicle emission tests and strengthening exhaust gas emission regulations are continuously optimized.
