Jetour's Strategy To Win The Indonesian Automotive Market

Chinese automotive brand Jetour is one of the new players entering the Indonesian automotive market. Although still a relative newcomer, Jetour is beginning to demonstrate its commitment to competing amidst fierce competition, including from fellow Chinese brands that are increasingly aggressively capturing market share. 

Ranggy Radiansyah, Marketing Director of Jetour Motor Indonesia (JMI), acknowledged that Jetour's entry into Indonesia is still very early and fraught with challenges. "Actually, we've only been here for a few months. Our first launch was in January of this year. So, we're actually only six months old. Although we launched last year in November," Ranggy said when interviewed recently. 

As is well known, Jetour's arrival adds to the growing list of Chinese automotive brands trying their luck in Indonesia. However, Jetour must compete not only with fellow Chinese brands but also with Japanese brands that have already dominated the Indonesian automotive market. "There are many Chinese brands entering, and the market is very competitive. We see that as a challenge. We have to compete with established Chinese brands and Japanese brands," Ranggy continued. 

To date, Jetour has launched two models for the Indonesian market: the Jetour Dashing and the X70 Plus. The company is optimistic that they will be well-received by Indonesian consumers. Globally, Jetour recorded sales of 568,387 units throughout 2024, an 80.3 percent year-on-year (YoY) growth compared to the same period in 2023. 

To strengthen its presence in Indonesia, Jetour has commenced local production of both models using completely knocked-down (CKD) units at the PT Handal Indonesia Motor (HIM) factory in October 2024. Furthermore, Jetour has also announced expansion plans, targeting the construction of 30 new dealerships in Indonesia by 2025. According to data from the Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (Gaikindo), Jetour wholesale sales reached 186 units from January to May 2025. Meanwhile, retail sales reached 176 units during the same period.
