Commercial Vehicle Sales Race: Isuzu, Daihatsu To Suzuki

Wednesday, 09 Jul 2025

A number of manufacturers such as Isuzu, Daihatsu and Suzuki are competing to record the best-selling sales in the commercial vehicle market, both in the pickup and truck segments throughout January-May 2025. For example, PT Isuzu Astra Motor Indonesia (IAMI), which is under the auspices of PT Astra International Tbk. (ASII), revealed a number of strategies when the domestic commercial vehicle market weakened throughout the year. Head of Communication Management Division of PT IAMI, Puti Annisa Moeloek said that the sluggish sales of commercial vehicles were in line with the decline in the automotive market as a whole. "Commercial vehicles are certainly very closely related to the macro economy. If many businesses decline, the demand for commercial vehicles will definitely decline first than passenger vehicles," said Annisa, Sunday (6/7/2025).

Moreover, in the midst of the weakening domestic market, the global economic conditions are also being hit by uncertainty, along with conflicts in various countries, such as in the Middle East and between Russia and Ukraine. He also hopes that Indonesia's economic conditions will gradually recover. "If our economy improves, the demand for commercial vehicles will definitely increase," said Annisa.

As a strategy to stimulate the commercial vehicle market, Isuzu will launch the latest commercial vehicle, the Isuzu Traga special edition at the 2025 GIIAS event which will be held on July 24-August 3, 2025 at ICE BSD City, Tangerang. "The special thing is that at GIIAS there will be the Isuzu Traga Special Edition 50 years of Isuzu. There are only 50 units and we will only sell them at GIIAS 2025," he explained. Then, he continued, Isuzu will also collaborate with government agencies to supply the Isuzu Elf bus model. Locally Assembled Vehicles Meanwhile, PT Suzuki Indomobil Sales (SIS) relies on a number of locally assembled vehicle products to drive sales. Dept. Head of 4W Sales PT SIS Randy R. Murdoko said that several Indonesian-made car models dominate around 81% of the total units sold, such as the New Carry, New XL7, All New Ertiga, and APV.

"The dominance of 81% of locally assembled vehicles in Suzuki's retail sales throughout May 2025 is not just an indicator of market success, consumer confidence is an appreciation of the hard work of thousands of local workers and the involvement of hundreds of supporting companies that are part of the supply chain," said Randy in his statement. Randy said, not only in the domestic market, the four Suzuki production models also show a strategic contribution on the global stage. Domestic production units have been shipped to more than 70 countries, reaching Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America. On the other hand, Suzuki is also strengthening its after-sales service reach through 302 dealer networks and 217 authorized workshops spread throughout Indonesia.
