The Lexus new energy project, located in the Shanghai Bay High-tech Zone in Jinshan District, is scheduled for completion in August 2026, while production is expected to begin in 2027, with an annual production capacity of 100,000 cars.

Through this investment, Toyota aims to accelerate its electric and intelligent vehicle transformation that is more suitable for China's domestic and international markets.

It is known that Lexus (Shanghai) New Energy Co., Ltd. has a registered capital of 107.1 billion Japanese yen or around 740 million US dollars (around Rp11.9 trillion) and covers a total area of ??around 1.13 million square meters. This area is larger than Tesla's factory in Shanghai, which occupies 860,000 square meters.

The Lexus project schedule is similar to Tesla's rapid development in Shanghai, as reported by Antara.

Tesla began building the Shanghai Gigafactory in January 2019, and delivered its first China-made Model 3 vehicle less than a year later, in December 2019.
